Senior Devops Engineer
- 6 - 12 years of experience
- Bengaluru, Chennai
- Full Time
We are expanding our Data Intelligence practice and are seeking a DevOps Engineer with 5–8 years of hands-on experience delivering and operating cloud-based software and data platforms. The DevOps Engineer will design, build, and maintain the CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and observability foundations that enable our engineering teams to ship reliable, secure, and cost-effective solutions at scale.
The ideal candidate has deep experience with Azure DevOps (or an equivalent CI/CD platform such as GitHub Actions or GitLab CI), a strong Infrastructure as Code discipline, and comfort operating modern cloud workloads including containerized services. The DevOps Engineer will partner closely with software engineers, data engineers, analysts, and security stakeholders, and will be expected to own assigned workstreams from design through production operation. Employee may perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
Essential Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps (or equivalent such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins) covering build, test, security scanning, artifact management, and multi-environment deployment.
- Author and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates — provisioning cloud resources in a reproducible, version-controlled, and policy-compliant manner.
- Build and operate container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes / AKS, Helm) — including cluster configuration, workload deployment, autoscaling, and lifecycle management.
- Implement observability across services and platforms — centralized logging, metrics, distributed tracing, dashboards, and actionable alerting (Azure Monitor / App Insights, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or similar).
- Embed security into the delivery lifecycle (DevSecOps) — secrets management, SAST/DAST, dependency scanning, container image scanning, and IaC policy checks.
- Manage environment strategy, branching models, release management, and change management; serve as a gatekeeper for production releases with thorough code and impact reviews.
- Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure, pipeline, and reliability issues promptly, with clear root-cause analysis and durable fixes; participate in on-call / incident response as needed.
- Drive cloud cost management and optimization — right-sizing, reserved capacity, tagging, budgets, and cost reporting.
- Partner with engineering teams to improve developer experience — self-service templates, golden paths, reusable pipeline components, and onboarding automation.
- Contribute to platform governance, compliance, and audit readiness — access controls, RBAC, identity integration (Azure AD / Entra ID), and evidence collection.
- Stay current with cloud and DevOps tooling; evaluate and recommend adoption of new capabilities where they drive measurable productivity, reliability, or cost gains.
Required Qualifications
- 5–8 years of hands-on experience in a DevOps, SRE, Platform Engineering, or closely related technical role.
- Expert-level experience with Azure DevOps (Pipelines, Repos, Artifacts, Boards) or equivalent modern CI/CD platforms such as GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.
- Strong Infrastructure as Code experience — production use of Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates, with clear understanding of module design, state management, and environment promotion.
- Production experience with at least one major cloud provider (Azure, AWS, or GCP); Azure preferred.
- Hands-on experience with containers and orchestration — Docker, Kubernetes (AKS/EKS/GKE), and Helm.
- Proficiency in scripting / automation languages such as PowerShell, Bash, and Python.
- Strong Git fundamentals — branching strategies, pull requests, code reviews, and trunk-based or GitFlow workflows.
- Experience implementing observability stacks — logging, metrics, alerting, and dashboards (Azure Monitor / App Insights, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Splunk, or similar).
- Working knowledge of DevSecOps practices — secrets management (Azure Key Vault, HashiCorp Vault), SAST/DAST tooling, dependency and container scanning.
- Solid networking fundamentals — VNets/VPCs, subnets, load balancers, DNS, TLS, private endpoints, and firewall rules.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum delivery and collaborative development environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, a STEM field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting data platforms — CI/CD for Databricks, Databricks Asset Bundles (DAB), Snowflake, or dbt; orchestration of data workloads; data pipeline observability.
- Experience with policy-as-code and guardrail tooling — Databricks Cluster Management, Azure Policy, OPA/Conftest, Checkov, or Terraform Sentinel.
- Experience with service mesh, API gateways, and ingress controllers (Istio, Linkerd, NGINX, APIM).
- Experience with GitOps tooling (Argo CD, Flux) and progressive delivery (canary, blue/green, feature flags).
- Experience with hybrid or multi-cloud environments and vendor-neutral tooling.
- Exposure to compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, PCI) and audit evidence workflows.
- Experience building internal developer platforms (IDPs) or developer portals (Backstage, self-service catalogs).
Preferred Certifications
- Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert (AZ-400)
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) or Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305)
- Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)
- HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional, or Google Cloud Professional DevOps Engineer
Soft Skills & Ways of Working
- Strong written and verbal communication — able to explain technical trade-offs clearly to engineers, leaders, and non-technical stakeholders.
- Stakeholder management — gathers requirements, negotiates scope, and provides transparent status updates across engineering, security, and business teams.
- Documentation-first mindset — takes ownership of clear runbooks, architecture diagrams, onboarding guides, and post-incident reviews.
- Collaborative and curious — works effectively in cross-functional teams (software engineering, data engineering, security, product) and invests in teammates’ success.
- Ownership and accountability — independently drives assigned workstreams end-to-end, flags risks early, and follows through on commitments.
- Pragmatic problem solver — balances long-term platform quality with the need to unblock teams and deliver incremental value; comfortable operating in ambiguity.
- Operational mindset — thinks proactively about reliability, cost, and security; learns from incidents and continuously raises the bar.
